Fresno has many different options when it comes being able to buy used vehicles.
Fresno has new car lots that sell pre owned dealer inspected used vehicles.
Fresno Also has options such as used car lots, where some use car lots inspect their vehicles and some buy vehicles from an auction yard such as Manheim Auto auctions in Fresno ca. And after the used car dealer purchase the vehicle from the auction they put the vehicle on their used car lot for sale without much of an inspection and they there are some dealers that will do a complete inspection of all safety items such as tires, brakes, lights and emissions before putting vehicle on their car lot for sale.
Fresno also has the options of social media for used car sales such as Facebook, Craigslist and Offerup. Where you are basically buying from a private person and the sale is considered by law a private sell and you have to be very careful because all private sale are consider AS-IS sales.
He only legal requirement on a as-is sell from a private seller is that the seller is legally obligated to provide you with smog certificate unless the two of agree in writing that you the buyer will be proving your own smog certificate at your own cost.
Fresno also has many different tow yards that you can buy vehicles from and most of these vehicle are called lien sale vehicles which is a vehicle the last owner never returned to the tow yard to redeem the vehicle so the tow yard place a storage lien on the and after approximately 30-45 days the tow yard became the owner.
The obvious problem with buy from a tow yard is that the tow business does not know any real history about the mechanical fitness of the vehicle such as does it Overheat after driving for a few hours, or does the transmission slip when going up a hill or incline, does the vehicle pass a smog inspection, what is the exact cost of any possible pass due registration. You cannot go on any meaningful test drive to get a feel of the vehicle true condition. And the list goes on and on why it is not a good idea to purchase from a tow business and we are saying that as a tow business.
Fresno also has the option that is even worse than buying from a tow yard and that is wrecking yards are now selling vehicles that the pass owners sold to the wrecking yard. Once the wrecking yard file required paper work to become the new owners of the vehicles the vehicle will then be consider salvage and the only way to put the vehicle back on the road is get a state of California mandated Brake inspection, Light Inspection, Smog Inspection and a vehicle identification number inspection. And pay extra fees at California DMV because it was a salvage that is being out back in use on California road ways. And just like the tow yard purchase you cannot go on any meaningful test drive to get a feel of the vehicle true condition.
There is always risk involved in buying a used car and we strongly advise taking a trusted mechanic with you when buying a used car from anyone at any time no matter if it’s a friend, family member, coworker, used car lot, social media, site tow yard or wrecking yard. There are some websites that are still under construction that offer used cars a very cheap prices.
